Chettinad Heritage is the digital platform of the ICSSR-funded research project, “Digitalising Chettinad Architectural and Cultural Heritage in Tamil Nadu for Sustainable Knowledge Management: An Empirical Analysis,” undertaken by CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru.
Interdisciplinary collaboration
Bringing together the Department of Computer Science, Department of Media Studies, and School of Architecture, the project documents Chettinad as a living heritage landscape shaped by architecture, settlement planning, water systems, craftsmanship, ritual practices, community memory, and cultural continuity.

Our Contribution
Through field surveys, measured drawings, GIS mapping, 360° documentation, environmental monitoring, interviews, virtual walkthroughs, documentary production, and empirical research, the project creates a comprehensive digital record of Chettinad’s tangible and intangible heritage.
This website brings together the project’s architectural studies, heritage database, maps, surveys, craft documentation, publications, immersive experiences, photographs, films, and other research outputs for scholars, communities, students, conservation professionals, and the wider public.
