A Legacy Etched in Time
Chettinad
Chettinad, spanning the Sivagangai and Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, opulent mansions, and distinctive traditions. Historically home to the prosperous Nattukottai Chettiar community, the region flourished as a centre of trade, blending Tamil craftsmanship with influences from Burma, Sri Lanka, and Europe. Its grand mansions, featuring intricate woodwork, handmade Athangudi tiles, Italian marble, Belgian glass, and spacious courtyards, embody a distinctive architectural identity.
Beyond its built heritage, Chettinad is celebrated for its distinctive cuisine, vibrant crafts, and traditional rituals. Preserving this living legacy is essential for future generations.
